Of Interest - Zari (a.k.a. Zardozi) is the fine glittery thread of gold or silver and the embroidery made using them. The stitches are extremely fine and are worked with dexterity and skill, with the embroidery starting from the center and proceeding to the outer edges in a circular fashion. Zari is the main material in most silk saris and ghararas. It is also used in other garments made of silk, like skirts and tops. Not confined to garments, however, Zari work can be done to create unique works of arts as well. The main zari producing centers are Surat in Gujarat and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The dull zari thread is called kora and the shinier one is called chikna. The equipment that is used for embroidery is a rectangular wooden frame called karchob and a wooden leg called thapa used for sewing laces.
